I'll just go through the basics

- simple steps u can try first , get a dvdrw (if there any ) and try burning with that , just for tests , so as not to waste cash on new dvdr
- have u run chkdisk / defrag lately , switched AV off while burning
- in ur sys bios settings the status of both cdrw and dvdrw , are they both using the same transfer settings ie udma 2 or udma 5 ? if not , change it to the same , and lower settings .
- under ide controller in device manager in xp , are they both running on "dma if available" , if so which transfer mode .
- what wattage is ur power supply ?
- i assume ur cdrw is working fine , so remove the cdrw and see if ur able to burn with the dvdrw alone

if u have the time go through the steps , it might seem a long process , but once u get ur dvdrw working u can have hours of writing without worries .

if u r having burning softwares Nero and Roxio, it's better u uninstall any one (Roxio) completely.....
also run Disk Defragmenter....and burn at a lower speed....

I have no problems writing CDs/ CDRW.. I have a CD Writer and a DVD Writer attached to my system. And there is absolutely no problem in burning a DVD. Its just during writing short lead out ie after burning the data that the burning fails.. If it were mid-way then i could understand. anyways ill try these steps.. I only have nero installed.. Havent used Roxio due to it system hungry requirements. Any other DVD burning software that i could use?
