My budget is within 24000. System is for home and for learning purpose.
I am thinking about

MotherBoard 845 Intel Original 533 FSB
Intel Pentium 2.4 Ghz
DDR RAM 512 MB Kingston
Monitor 17" LG
Hard Disk seagate Baracuda 7200 RMP -120 GB
CD Writer ?
Modem Internal ?
UPS ?

is this configuration is good within budget? I am also confused between Intel and AMD. which one is best pentium 2.4 or Athlon Xp 2400+? what about celeron?
please give me suggestion about best configuration.
Thanks

AMD 64 processor 2800+ for 5.1k

Asus k8s-mx motherboard for for 3.7k
or Asus k8v-x mtherboard for for 4k

512 ddr - hynix for 4k
monitor 17" for 5.5k
hdd seagate 120Gb for 3.8k
cd writer sony or liteon for 1.3k

UPS -
APC is the best (500VA) for 2.5k
or Powersafe 600VA UPS for for 1.95k

Internal modem for 0.3k
D-link or Intex or Quantum.

but this config totals around 26.4 k

Please go for AMD. since is far better in many ways compared to it's counterpart....
Better go for AMD 64 bit since it is future proof ..it almost costs same......... 8) 8) 8)

hynix d43 512mb ddr 400 for 2400
take 256 X 2 if possible but if not required take 512mb X 1
try 256 X 2 similiar of corsair value slect or something if supported
single 512mb for 2800 + tax that time

akshayt : he can go for 2 256 DIMM sticks instead for 1 x 512 , but 2800 + does not have dual channel support . Minimum of 3000+ amd64 socket 939 is required .

Pentium 2.4 or Athlon Xp 2400+?

Pentium 2.4 runs @ 2.4GHZ, AMD 2400+ runs prob around 1.4GHZ. AMD max speed is around 2.8GHZ. But AMD is faster since they use on chip memory controllers and the way their pipelines are built. Intel on the other hand is made for big money, so if you pay the big bucks you get a much faster system. But for the same price AMD will beat it hands down.

One of the things about AMD is since it is slower you can use slower parts. Like DDR 366 or 400 memory chips for most AMD stuff. For Intel those would be too slow. I just got my first AMD system because before there used to be compatibility problems. A few programs would not run on AMD processors. Also AMD has less heat problems since it runs slower. I bought the AMD 3000+ instead of the sempron because it runs at 1.4V instead of 1.5V. I think the sempron 3100+ also runs at 1.4V. But the others all run at 1.5V. Also Intel is always hotter. Quiet and cool also helps lower temperature. For India I think AMD is the way to go. Anything to increase reliability without spending a fortune. IE slower, cooler, less stressful etc... Unlike Intel the Sempron at the same number runs faster than the regular AMD cpu. IE the AMD 3000 sempron runs @ 2.0 GHZ, while the AMD 3000+ runs @ 1.8GHZ. The speed response is drastically faster compared to an Intel 1.8GHZ which I am using. But then again my Intel 866MHZ with SDRAM was much faster and more responsive than the 1800MHZ P4 with DDR memory for some reason.

WTF , what kind of explaination is that ? what is DDR 366 ? what AMD and intel has to do with slower parts and faster parts ? do u know the "Hypertransport" link speed of amd including Sempron is 1600 to 2000 mhz ? what it has to do with Voltages ? :p Its the fabricaion process which decides the voltages of the processors amongst other factors .

So is there any other processor which is faster than the athlon fx57 ? (assuming that by mentioning 2.8 ghz you mean fx57)

Pipelines ? There is a word which u missed out here , "PR"

and BTW , Athlon XP 2400+ runs @ 2 ghz ,AMD 1500+XP runs @ 1.4 ghz.
Athlon XP never had onboard Memory Controllers , AMD never had any combatibility issus with its processors , Only around 1999 , it had issues with AGP miniport drivers , which after upgrading it(Driver) , was resolved .

As of now , intel does not have a single lead on both Single or Dual Core processors ,

Intel P4EE Dual Core Runs @ 3.2 ghz , while its predessor ran @ 3.73 ghz ,Does that mean the 3.2 ghz is slower ? Did i mention PR before :D
Cheers !
