hi, i need some information regarding PCI expansion cards..........

1>>>
i have been experiencing problems when using Dlink DSL router thru a usb2 port. so i want to use it thru a lan port. but my computer doesnt have one. it does have an ethernet card slot, on the mobo. but it is at the bottom-most point of my mobo. thus it cannot be reached from the outside.

hence the only option may be a lan port thru a pci card. is such a thing available?

also, say i want to connect computer A, to another computer B as well as a DSL router, can i use two lan ports on a single computer? so is a pci card with two lan ports available? what would it cost?

2>>>
i want to buy a pci card with "USB2 HIGH SPEED" ports on it. is a card with four "USB2 HIGH SPEED" ports available? what would it cost?

thank you

thanks for your reply.

a google image search for 'crossover network cable' showed standard ethernet cables. i know that these cables can help connect two comps thru lan ports.

but due the problem (i have explained above) i am asking if a PCI CARD with LAN PORT(S) (ie. one or more than one) is available?

They are readily available in the market..

Search and get yourself a good one. They come very cheap also.

ok, got both the cards today from lamington road (mumbai).

the PCI to USB2HIGHSPEED is of some unknown CHINI company called ENTER. rs.250/-

the PCI LAN CARD is of INTEX. rs.200/-. Also one of the shop keepers told me that the PCI LAN CARD sold by D-Link (min price rs.350/-) uses the same chip. hence he advised against going for the costlier one which would give the same performance.

after extensive price comparision i bought the cards for the prices mentioned above from PC GUIDE, LAMINGTON ROAD, MUMBAI.

also it seems that only one lan port per card is available. hence to connect my pc to another pc as well as a modem i will need two of those pci lan cards.
