PC Upgrading - Suggestions needed

Hello everyone,

Here's my present rig:

Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (2.4 ghz , overclocked to 3.0Ghz)
ABIT IP35-E Motherboard
Coolermaster Gemini II-S Cooler
6GB DDR2 800
MSI GTX 560Ti
Corsair VX450W SMPS
1x200GB,1x250GB SATA HDD

Now , the reason I've decided to upgrade this is because the ABIT motherboard has been malfunctioning lately. Some SATA ports are non-operational , the front Audio jacks aren't working and it sometimes doesn't boot up at all. The processor is also pretty old and it could use an upgrade. This is my 2nd IP35-E board btw , and while it's good..it's been error prone for me.

And today, my GTX560 Ti died (posted on the Graphics card thread, gonna RMA it).

Budget : 10k - 20k
Components required: Processor , Motherboard , Cabinet and RAM.

I don't have any plans to upgrade the PSU , it's capable of giving 500-510W despite it's 450W rating.

Processor : I'm willing to go for AMD / Intel.

Motherboard : Preferably one with 4 RAM slots , the usual PCIx16 slot. I'm not going to SLI , since my PSU can't probably handle it.

Cabinet : One with good breathing space , my old one was a microwave oven.

RAM : I've already got 6GB of DDR2 , but I think it's time I tossed it out. Besides, the newer motherboards won't support it. So it's DDR3 I guess?

U know what i feel, u dont need to replace your processor. Q6600 is legendary and athlon ii x4 and q8xxx are barely faster.

If u really have the upgrade bud, then i5 2500k + z68 mobo is what i will suggest. 20k. Cabinet = nzxt gamma.

I think you should change the psu as well. Vx 450 is kind of insufficient to run a 560-ti with a quad core processor. Another forum member had problems WITH HIS 560-TI HAWK until he replaced his vx 450 with a tx 650. It also gave reduced framerates.

I suggest you to upgrade the psu and get a corsair GS600 minimum. Corsair Tx 650 will be ideal and you'll get 5 years of warranty just like your vx 450.

Efficiency is also good in the tx series.

Ya, Vicky is correct here..Q6600 is is 1st gen of Core2 architecture and based on 65nm fabrication process compared to the 45nm of next gen Core2 processors like Q8400. So it consumes a lot of power and you've overclocked your CPU also.
I think upgrading to a 600-650W PSU is recommended here. Corsair TX650 V2, a 80+ Bronze certified PSU is available @ 5.5K here.

For motherboard, you need a mobo with 4 DDR2 ram slots since you are having three 2 GB modules. So get Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L @ 4.6K. This mobo has 4 Ram slots and plenty of PCI-E and PC slots. Another option is Biostar TP35D2-A7 around the same price range.

Ok guys , here's an update. I've decided to keep the motherboard as it is (it got RMA'd and will arrive in 15 days) , but the PSU and Cabinet will be changed :

PSU : Corsair TX650 V2
Cabinet : Cooler Master 690 II Advanced

Your observations , please.
