1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Web surfing with firefox 10 :) , Photoediting softwares like Gimp, Photoshop CS5 , lightroom , watching movies @1080p , sometimes video encoding (rarely)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:
12-13k
3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Already have 320*2 sata HDD

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Already have 17" Samsung LCD res-1440x900

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: monitor, hdd, keyboard, mouse, DVD RW

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within a week

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will do myself

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: I live in Nagpur, can buy locally as well online

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I have to buy Intel i3 processor ....That's a limitation :-x

I am open for suggestion for power/cabby ...but cant go for anything too costly.
No plan for graphic card right now...may go for that after some months...
I am on tight budget now...If needed I can buy a good power supply sometimes later

Please suggest :) Thanks

BTW I forgot to mention I definitely want USB 3 port

I'll suggest an AMD Llano based APU solution like A6-3650 or A8-3850 because then you will get a powerful integrated GPU HD 6550D which is DirectX 11 capable, let you play all the games with good settings @ 1440X900 resolution and also good for 1080P HD contents. Moreover, you can use Video encoders with GPU acceleration support (Cyberlink MediaShow Espresso, Imtoo Video Encoder etc) to perform faster video encoding.
Here is my suggestion:-

AMD A8-3850 (2.9 GHz, 4 Cores, 4 MB L2 Cache) @ 7.3K
AMD HD 6550D DirectX 11 Integrated Graphics
ASUS F1A55-MLX PLUS @ 3.9K
G-skill RipjawX 1600 MHz 4GB X 1 DDR3 Ram @ 1.5K

Total: 12.7K.

This config is much more suited for your requirements and actuallymore balanced config. CPU performance wise A8-3850 is little behind i3 2100 but in real life you won't feel a thing. Now in Integrated GPU performance, the onboard 6550D is more than 3 times faster than Intel HD 2000 Graphics. and you are definitely gonna feel the difference.

Retired Forum Mod
AMD Phenom II 960T @ 6.8k
Gigabyte 880GM-USB3 @ ~5k [not worth the price, add USB3 card later]
4Gb DDR3 @ 1.2k

instead get GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P @ 2.6k and add a USB 3.0 addon card next year. it'll also cost below 12k.

@Cilius
That motherboard doesn't have USB 3.0 , but i think OP can add an USB 3.0 addon card later , I was thinking the same config but USB3 was not availabe on most mobo so I gave the mentioned config.Sam's post reminded me of the USB 3.0 Card
@Sam changed it to 13200

Thanks guys

I will check what Cilus have suggested..I have already compared i3-2100 vs A6-3650 and saw i3 beating it in all benchmarks...will check the A8-3850

Sam let me do some homework regarding AMD Phenom II 960T :)

guys please clarify me something...how come in Anandtech CPU comparision i3-2100 beats both A8-3850 and Phenom II 955

AnandTech - Bench - CPU

Buddy, check my post clearly and you will find out that I've mentioned clearly that i3 2100 is ahead of A8-3850 too in benchmarks. But the problem is most of the people actually get confused by seeing the performance difference in Synthetic benchmarks. Actually, in real world performance, little less score in benchmarks hardly matters, you won't be able to find any difference between a i3 2100 and A8-3850 in 90% of the applications. Now when it comes in gaming and multimedia related performance, you definitely need a dedicated Graphics card, around 4K (HD 5670) to play games. So the total cost will be around 11K+.
Now here AMD APU solution will kick up. The IGP will provide you performance compared to a HD 6550 dedicated card and let you play all the games.

Hope you're getting my point...I'm talking about overall multimedia experience here.

@sujoyp: Out of topic. You have some fantastic pictures on 500px. Those macro shots are amazing. Did you shoot it with the 55mm macro lens? Wow. You must have got really close to the fly with only 55mm. I really can't believe it's Nikon 3100. I thought it was crap.

Guys I am back to square one :( Dad rejected the AMD idea soo Intel only

What I have planned is -

Intel core i3-2100 - 6500
Intel DH67GD/BL - 5500 (whats difference btween GD and BL model)
Corsair DDR3 value 4 GB RAM - 1150
Corsair PSU CX430 430w - 2350

I know it bumps my budget by 3k but PSU is important :)

@blackpearl thanks...D3100 is no where crap yaar...its just as good :) higher models have more features and cost more :)

55mm macro lens is nikons one of the sharpest macro lens and yes I have to move very close to the insect ;)

------------------------------------------------------------

guys please help with this so that I can order tomorrow

Intel DH67GD/BL (whats difference btween GD and BL model???)

and can I fit 1600 MHZ RAM on this ....actually it says that motherboard support only max 1333 MHZ RAM :)

Cilus

Yes, you can fit 1600 MHz ram on it, but they will be automatically underclocked to 1333 MHz:mrgreen: . So, get the cheaper 1333 MHz value rams for Corsair.
