A human, I use Ubuntu
I use FC7 and not a very experienced user also.

When I click on 'Add/Remove Software' (pirut?) it compains about not finding any network. I have found that this is not the case if I am connected to internet. Does pirut require a working internet connection always? Even to tell me which applications are installed on my PC ?

Then how would I install new packages from the distro DVD ? Do we have some alternative for this ?

For the last question, you need to change some files in /etc/yum.repos.d/ search on the net for it. You will surely get the answer.

will yum help me in anyway ?
The 'Add/Remove Software' uses Yum as its backend for Repositories and Installation.

So basically, if you remove the Online Package Links your Repo Sources, then it'll take only the CD/DVD.

But I don't think the Disk has many proprietary stuff like Codecs and all.
