It looks like NTFS is better than RAR compression format 8)

Is RAR obsolete and is NTFS better ?
I dont even have to archive or anything in NTFS drives... 8)

Nooo !
I m askin u guyz to see the 2 compression ratios and see which is the better one, RAR or NTFS...

See the images of both...
Theres a difference of 29328 bytes in NTFS than in RAR...

So I think NTFS compresses more better than RAR...

Instead of viewing the file sizes for comparision, try ntfsRatio

Any compression depends on the type of content and the redundancy of the content itself. Perhaps, you can do a benchmark by compressing different types of files with winrar and ntfs.

yup ...
NTFS is only a file system .. it is NOT a compression format. .
it cannot be used as a standalone compressing technique netiher is it portable
definitely not a replacement for compression technologies like zip, rar and better yet 7-zip and UHARC

Yes, ntfs is a file system, but compression is one of the services that ntfs offers. Ntfs uses the LZ77 algorithm on groups of clusters of the specified file/folder/volume. Here's a pdf with a satisfactory explaination.
But this compression algo is a fair balance between cpu usage and compression ratio, so don't expect great compression.
Also, though the compression/decompression is near real-time, don't go compressing frequently used programs or databases with this compression. Rather use it on backup setup programs and the like.

Yeah, i know that the NTFs is not a format, but just see the compression ratio, its better than RAR on the same file...

How is that possible ?
RAR is the best isnt it ? (comparin NTFS)
