Hi

I just got a MSI HD 6770+ a Corsair CX 430 v2 and installed them.

Now I have an ancient rig from 2009 i.e.

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
MOBO- MS-7525 (BOSTON)
Cabinet-Compaq Stock
RAM - SAMSUNG DDR2
PSU -Corsair CX 430 v2 (new)
GPU - MSI HD 6770 MD1GD5 (new)

So, in all, I want an upgrade for the PROCESSOR, MOBO, RAM AND CABINET

so to get the best under the budget.

The budget is 20k as limit..

please suggest all the four for 20k as well as 22k and elweigh it towards ocing a bit.

Thanking you,
Kush

If you want to decrease your budget a bit, buy I5-2320 @9.6K
The difference is 100MHz less speed, nothing more.
Want to buy a better cabinet?
Buy Corsair 400R @4.5K

P.S. At your budget I can find this as a good config. You won't need to get IB config as you won't be getting any OC'able platform at your budget. Stick to this BS cpnfig for ht e best price-performance ratio.

Thread Moved into correct section

@ OP - if you are getting a Intel based rig then forget OCing but if you do want to OC just sell your current mobo+cpu+ram - should fetch you ~4k - with the ~26k get :

Core i5 2500k @ 12.8k
Asrock Z77 Pro4 @ 8.8k
G-Skill F3-12800CL9S-4GBXL @ 1.7k
NZXT Source Elite @ 2.6k

later grab a cpu cooler for OCing.

you Are pretty right.

The market value of C2D E7400 is 6.5k which can be sold for 4k then there are other things inside that too (I AM NOT SELLING MY GPU AND PSU) So I WILL connect its stock PSU

with 28k, there are possibilities. But the problem is that I am in 9th presently and After 10th. I am off to hostel at kota, is it really worth the upgrade ?

what about GIGABYTE GA-Z77P-D3 at 8.8k at itwares?

ALSO PLEASE SUGGEST AN AMD CONFIg

no1 will buy it at 4k (my QX9650 goes for 6.5k max)...anyways..I dont think you will gain any performance..no need to upgrade IMO..

mr future iitian ,
go for the rig suggested.
when you go to kota , take one of the rigs with you (i know thats not complete, buy some things at that time)
and you can then use both via remote desktop.

@rajan1311 : you are saying that c2d 7400 ~ i5 2400 ? :shock: :shock: :shock:

well, where will I get Extreme 4 for 8.8k ?

And, I think I will never use the full power but for PCIe 3.0, you need an ivy bridge and thats what dissapoints me :/

@theserpent-well actually with 6770, you don't game much but with a k series, you enter HWBot competetions !

Well IMO you should stick with your current config. till 10th and then upgrade.
Chances are there that an upgrade might ruin your 10th.

what i am saying is fps(C2d+6770)=fps(i5 2400+6770)

In other words, his system would does not have any severe bottlenecks, changing the CPU and mobo etc will not make any noticeable difference in gaming..

koolent: going to kota? sad.. i just dont like the ppl who go there for 'IIT' training..in fact i just hate the whole "get into iit and ur life is set' theory.. but that dont belong to this section....you wont get time to check your emails, let alone gaming !

1. C2D is EOLed a long ago. Avoid it.
2. Avoid Gigabyte z77 boards. In most of the places they are not available. Now what will happen in case of RMA when extra board isn't available for replacement? Obviously, you will be harassed.

sumonpathak

knocking on heavens door
avoid Asrock too....
try for an AMD config...PIIX6+990X mobo....
PCI 3.0 have no effect as of now..maybe in 10-15 yrs....u will be married with kids by then :p

Phenom II X6 processors can't be found that easily. MD Computers have only one such processor.

I can't comment about the upgrade plan of yours compared to the the "Ancient" rig - some people just feel like their pc is 3 or more years old so they need to upgrade just for the sake of upgrade though there may not be any improvements related to their work - some people upgrade just for fun - some to try and learn something new ( say OC ) - now if you are not going for a powerful gpu / multi gpu config then you won't get any immediate benefit from the upgrade unless you are using some cpu intensive apps for your work which a C2D can't handle but if you consider 22k+ investment is Ok for learning Intel's latest Ocing techs and yur upgrade will come handy in future you can proceed but consider the things I ( and others ) have told - all in all a upgrade plan depends on the users need and personal test.

GIGABYTE GA-Z77P-D3 has no VRM heatsink - so it's not a good option for OCing and for a AMD config you are gonna OC and a Hexa Core cpu you should seriously think about changing the PSU.

^^ it all depends upon how well one can manage the Time ;-) even I used to play a lot ( and even now ).

Okay, but there are some problems with my configuration:

RAM:

Only 2 GB DDR2 @ 400 MHz is supported it might have been 4 GB if one of te 2 slots was not damaged :( .

Motherboard:

1) One RAM Slot is damaged
2) Supports only DDR2 (2GB x 2)
3) PCI-E 1.1 x1.6 Only
4) OC Options Locked by HP

Chassis:

1) No wire management space.
2) Filled with my PSU wires :(
3) More Fans are impossible to install only 1 Fan (Backward) supported and 1 Fan (Front) is what I have glued to the front :(

CPU:

1) Old !
2) 2 Cores
3) 2.8 GHz
4) Core 2 Duo

(In no priority order)

So, this is why I want to upgrade and turn this into a good computing machine :). So now, this is what I have planned:

CPU|Intel i5-2500k|Rs. 12500
Mainboard|AsRock Extreme4|Rs. 10500
|or|
|AsRock Pro4|Rs. 8800
RAM|G.Skill RipjawsX (4GB x 1)|Rs. 1500
Cabinet|NZXT Source 210 Elite|Rs. 2500

I chose Source because of its simple design and USB 3.0 Compatibility.

Now to decide between AsRocks :p. Which one to choose between Pro4 and Extreme4 ?
