I have two computers with modems. Is it possibel to connect the two using only a telephone cord (RJ-11 cord) with no actual telephones being involved? If so how does one do this ?

Use Microsoft Direct cable connection.
Its somewhere under startmenu/programs/accessories/..
If not then install it from the control panel n view the help file.
No I dont think it is possible the minimum you need are three wires for a null modem connection that can connect two PC using a serial cable link. Doing this with an RJ 11, I think is not feasable.
