There's no 915AV chipset. there is 915G, 915P, 925X, 925XE. As u r buying a GFX card no need to go 4 915G which features a onboard VGA. U shud go 4 915P (which features 8channel HD audio). Which processor r u buying. go 4 a P4 above or equal to 3.0Ghz U didn't specified whether u wud go 4 DDR2 or DDR. 915P has both models and sum models support DDR2 as well as DDR.
U can also go 4 AMD 64 3200+(Socket 939) and ASUS A8V (it has AGP instead of PCI-E) or ASUS A8N SLI (PCI-E and SLI).
well p4s are certainly not a bad choice for running MAYA. Softmod ur 6600 into a quadro and the maya will run at sum better speed. or u can use hardware mod to convert it into quadro (Both mods do void warranty but in case of softmod U can come back to the original state while in Hardware mod not)

athlon64 has proved to be good for gaming, but p4 is still better in encoding, animation etc stuff.
i'd suggest this config
p4(lga775) 2.8 ghz, 6.5k
asus P5GD1/ms1 915p combo-fr(they r both very good boards,go with whichever one is available) 7-8k
hynix 2*512 mb ddr3200 6.5k
zebronics 400w smps 450
any good atx cabinet 1k
kb+mose(optical) 890
seagate 120 gb sata 4k
s/s 17" flatscreen 7.5k
liteon combo 2.5k
