in our office most of the new monitors are widescreen 17" ones.... n v mainly used for coding purposes... i'm nt at all impressed with the performances of the widescreen ones... text, images etc are stretched... n i find it very difficult to read it... i dnt know if there is any settings to change or not....

also most of the games in the market are not made for widescreen.... only very few of them supports this.... also i read in one of the blogs that widescreen is mainly used for watching movies....

pls check this site:

as my main activities are coding n playing games i dont think it will fit for me.... thats y i prefer to choose a non-widescreen model...

anyway i dont mind switching to a widescreen one if there is a model that satisfies my other points.... i.e. contrast ratio, response time, budget etc....

my techie gurus out here...if there is anything wrong in my views or findings pls correct me ok....

so please help me out to choose a gud monitor for me... n i'm not interested in HD ready or Full HD models...

May be u need to be little updated. After 2006, every single game released comes with wide screen support, infact now days if u don't have wide screen, u won't be able to enjoy the features of the game.
I 'll give u an example, i played a game named DEAD SPACE(one hell of a scary game- can say the scariest game of the year). Earlier i had 17"(1280x1024) screen & now i 've got 20"(1600x900) screen, the game experience in WIDE screen is amazing & a MUST because the player already takes upto half of the screen & when i used to play on 17", i got stabbed by those monster easily because of the lack of the side view.
May be this can give u better idea:

*www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Dead_Space
Check the difference between both.

There are more & better examples but from now on whatever game come will feature wide screen support.

The wide monitors are bit difficult to adapt when u addicted to sq. ones & it 'll take some time to get used to it. Trust me if now i 've to work on sq. monitors again, i might probably kill myself.
