Hi there,

I need suggestions on Mobo+GPU. I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000. Would that processor be enough or should I get a better one?

I dont really do lot of gaming but I would like that option to be there. The most I play now is a little CS and CS:S once in a while. I do lot of multi tasking and system would be running 24/7.

I will be buying from Trivandrum, if possible.

I can spend upto 10k or a little more for everything. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

780G chipset mobo(4.5K) + HD3850 512 MBDDR3(6K) total with tax and all may come within 11K
nothing can beat this mobo GPU set in that price.

If you not into gaming, there is no need to change them. First try to play the games that you want to play on your current PC. If you are unable to play them, get nVidia 9600GT for 5.5k. That should be enough for you.

Thanks everybody for taking the time to reply.

Current Mobo is MSI K9MMV and it only has an AGP 8x slot.

I realize that I dont need to spend 10k for my needs but I was just thinking that if I spend a little more now, I wouldnt have to upgrade again in a very long time.

I will try to get 9600GT and a better Mobo than what I have.

Thank you

9600GT would be less powerful than HD3200 + HD3850 combo on 78G mobo. remember nVidia card do not work with hybrid gfx of 780G mobos,

or get 8200/8300 chipset mobos from Zotac with Hybrid GFX for nVidia

also HD3850 is 6K so it will be just a little over your budget of 10K

hybrid gfx is supported only upto hd3450.
Even hd3650 is not supported. But ofcourse u can use either the gfx card or the onboard but not both together.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Zotac Geforce 8300 - Rs 4350.
It does support AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ right?

Should I go for it?

Thank you

yes HD3850 would not work well in hybrid gfx with HD3200, and even HD3850 performance will be hampered if it is used in hybrid mode with the onboard gfx. Because you need to have equal capacity cards running if wanna run in crossfireX.

So if he does wanna use hybrid he would need HD3450.
Jus suggested HD3850(which easily beats the hybrid setup of HD3450) as it is 6K card coming in his price range. besides simple movie watching and all he would not even need HD3850 onboard GPU is more than enough

same would go for hybrid gfX for nVidia 8400 or 8500 only would work well in 8200/8300 chipset

Zotac Geforce 8300 - Rs 4350. does support AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ is good option and you can add 9600GT later on or any card you wish to.

Since you are not a gamer, instead of upgrading mobo and GPU try to upgrade CPU + GPU. I think Phenom X3 and 9600GT (for 11k) should be a better choice than 780G + 9600GT or 780G+3xxx series card.

Make sure that your current mobo support Phenoms. What is the model number?

DUH! the 3850 can't be paired up with the 3200.

In this case, the 3850 will be switched off to save power while using not very demanding apps.

SUGGESTION:

Settle for 9600GT from Xpert Vision for 5.5k
MSI P45 Neo for 6k
e5200(coming very soon) for 3.7k or e7200 for 5.5k

I think I already said that in my second reply,

Really I too am very happy to see the pricing of Xpert Vision GFX cards. HD3850 in 5K, 9600GT in 5.5K, HD 4850 in 8.9K:cool: well this pricing cant be beaten by any chance, considering high end to low end

Don't forget, their 3870 is 6.8k!
