I have been planning to get a 22" or a 24" inch LCD Monitor. Though my requirement doesn't demand HD, but still I will go for a HD LCD keeping in mind the future prospects.

My current system is +5 years old and I won't be upgrading it since it's enough for me. The point is will it be able to handle a 22" or 24" LCD monitor?

System Specs:

Pentium 4 2.0 GHZ
768 MB DDR RAM
7300GT 512 MB AGP Card

I think Gigacore owns a similar system & uses a 22" LCD monitor. It would be good if you could comment Giga. :)

Also which 24" OR 22" LCD will come under Rs.12k? I don't mind to sacrifice the HDMI Input since I think we can use a DVI to HDMI adaptor, right?

Please help me :)

I do have that LCD under scanner but I would like to hear some other alternatives.

Also I would like to give preference to 24" inch over 22". :D
Another point, I won't do much gaming on this so no need to be ultra fast in response. Watching movies will also be limited. For such use I think LCD with 5ms response time should be enough.

And again I think there won't be any compatibility problems in linux?

Ok.

But will my system be able to handle HD resolution?
I will play games mostly at 800*600 or 1024*768.

Hmmm.. u must be lucky to read my reply here.. coz I rarely visit digit forum these days.. and even though if I visit, I won't read more than 3 threads.. but today.. I dunno what happened..

Anyway, even I got the same hardware config expect my cpu clocks at 3.06GHz...

I've got this one: *www.samsung.com/in/consumer/detail...subtype=tftlcdmonitors&model_cd=LS22MYNKF/XTP

For me, its doing very well. The color, contrast, brightness, picture quality and everything else..

Though this one is not Full HD, i am able to watch Full HD movies and TV shows without any issues.. (though the playback gets compressed due to less resolution).. I don't see much quality loss coz am not a movie buff...

And playing games is also a good experience on this monitor.. Only thing is the GFX card must support good resolutions..

Your GFX card supports movies at HD Resolutions.. but playing games at HD resolution is NOT possible... if its possible.. the game play will be like slideshow :p

For my work.. Web Designing... this monitor is more than enough.. And it has satisfied my needs in entertaining me every now and then with movies and games..

And yes, you must find this one at < or = 12k now..

edit:

btw.. there is one down side.. Only VGA (D-Sub) for connectivity.. (no dvi, no hdmi)

And if you are kinda guy who give preference to external looks and design.. this one has shiny bezel, no ugly buttons.. this one has touch buttons and very elegant :D

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
^^ Who on earth in this day of age will buy an lcd with only a VGA. They are better off with a CRT.
Dell e228wfp is old. I bought it and made a review on december 07 (I think). Ancient historical screen.

Ohh.. It's the G5 effect which bought you to this thread.
Thanks for the informative reply :)

I too have samsung in mind, they too have good reviews. The one which you own is good, if only it had DVI. Maybe I would visit lammy today & look for my available options. ;)

And I won't do gaming at all. Perhaps only the classics like NFS MW or CS CZ, so no worries if I am unable to go HD in gaming.

By the way, how is the quality of a 700 MB DVD rip on a 22" panel?
