Hi,

I have an almost 5 yr old PC with core 2 duo 1.86 Ghz and Intel's p965 chipset based motherboard ( DG965RY ). I want to upgrade it to make it a mid-range gaming PC.

Do I need to replace the above two. What I was thinking was to get some more RAM ( 4 GB at least ) and add a good graphics card ( within 8-10k ). Will it suffice ?

I understand I will have to add a new PSU and I also want to replace my existing 17" LCD monitor with a 23" and upwards size monitor ( max 15k ).

I am a software engineer by profession would like to do some gaming on weekends. I need suggestions from you guys in order to go forward.

Help me out please and thanks in advance !

Regards,
Dev Jyoti

you already have good amount of budget to get all new parts
why to for something which is obsolete now-a-days?

and I was thinking if you could manage to fetch around 4-5k by selling you old setup, that way you can get even better system to fulfill your needs for a longer period of time

that way you can also get yourself a 23" screen along with a good gfx card

Sell your older parts and get some money it will help you get good GPU ..... I missed the chance of selling my parts

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: in 2 months time

two months is a long time in hardware market and there is no point of discussing now. In this month AMD's new gen Bulldozer processors are gonna be launched and there will be lost of price upgrades. So better create the thread couple of weeks before purchasing.
