Can you give more info? From a quick google search I found that the satellite 3000 series uses:

Type: 1 x DVD / floppy drive combo - plug-in module

It may be some sort of a combo to attach both fdd and odd. Does your laptop feature only the fdd and no optical drive? If there is no place to fit in a standard optical drive, how would getting some means of dvd drive help on the mobility aspect?

Moreover how is the fdd connector like? I have never seen a fdd connector for laptop, but the optical drive uses a IDE Interface - 50 Pin ATAPI Standard. The IBM drive will have a similar socket at its rear, check the pic

Post a pic of the connector of the fdd if you can. Check disassembly pics of Toshiba laptops on www.irisvista.com
