My 5.1 Speakers Half Dumb

Recently I bought a 5.1 speaker system and hooked it onto my Onida DVD player.The problem is that when a DVD(original with Digital Dolby 5.1) is played the front two speakers sound good but the rear surround speakers and the center speaker are barely audible even when they are set to the highest volume possible.
One of my friends has suggested that I buy an amplifier for it.

Please help me out.

Nope check your connections first and properly.Now make sure to turn up the rear speakers volume from amplifier or from controlling setup.

@srikanthgss try setting the audio channel to 5.1 in the DVD audio menu. there will be a few options in the settings which lets you set the audio channels to mono,sterio, and 5.1 . try those settings.
