microsoft word2000 displays glitering things where text has been entered

The pc in my dad`s office is running ms word 2000 and there is always some colourfull glitter type effect near the cursor and then everywhere where the text has been entered. similar thing isnt happening anywhere else so I know its not a monitor or graphics card error. Someone who knows this app well can please help me? my dad`s counting on me

Goto Tools => Font and navigate to tab Text Effects

In Animations you click on none

Note:This glittering is there if you have clicked on Default below Preview
