Microsoft to buy Red Hat ?

"Various news sources including ZDnet are today reporting that Microsoft is considering buying out Red Hat, speculating that 'Microsoft could see Red Hat's acquisition as a nice way to undermine IBM, but might not consider that a sufficient reason to do it,' adding that Red Hat is however '...a company that wants to be Microsoft and, like Microsoft, makes its living packaging and selling other people's ideas.'"

hmm..... if Microsoft does buy Redhat... expect a lot of changes on the Linux scenario... considering that Redhat is one of the most popular distributors of Linux.

it seems Microsoft is really getting serious about it's competition.

Things are just being speculated. But that would be THE BIGGEST BOOST for the Linux community, because that means M$ sees Linux as something competitive or a threat or something that could make more money for M$.

Well .. Hmm.. Fedora wont be much affected by this buyout (if it ever happens) cauz of its open source .. But Hmm... I think there will be many complications for other licenses of Red Hat ..

Hmm.. I remember reading about Sun's possible buyout by MS too .. Wonder what happened to that ..

It won't happen.
If Microsoft buys the RH LINUX then it will only affect market for sometime then again it will back to normal as today.
It will never stop the distribution, but from MS's previous background. it will try to make more money from it..

LIke selling.. MS LINUX ;)

Man, if it happens it ill be a bad news.
But the Effect will soon be over as RED HAT are not only distributer.
But its good to c that LINUX has started to bite M$'s @SS.

(RED) HATs off to Linux :p

M$ buying out Red Hat is a great news for other distro companies like Mandrake (Mandrive), SuSE, Linspire, Debian, etc. because then free software fan will think 10 times before using that product. A competitior's loss is other one's gain :)
