Microsoft has released the latest version of SQL Server 2008 to manufacturers.

The latest version released will help users to store more data in a compress form. Further, SQL Server 2008 also helps users perform other functions with their data such as query, search, synchronize, report, and analyze, says Microsoft. According to Microsoft, one of the selling points of SQL Server 2008 is the resource governor which helps users to control over their data regardless of the storage location.

Some of the its additional features are new data types such as spatial data, better connectivity with third-party apps from companies like Oracle, new integration points with Office, a new report builder, easier encryption, and policy-based management features to enforce compliance.

On this occasion, Pallavi Kathuria, Director – Server Business Group, Microsoft India commented, “Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is the only major database that includes comprehensive, tightly integrated functionality for data management as well as advanced business intelligence – all out-of-the-box. By offering a complete solution, we save customers time and money and allow them to focus on deriving the most value from their data assets.”

SQL Server 2008 will be released in seven different editions including compact, express, standard, workgroup, developer, enterprise, and web.

Talking on the pricing, the other similar editions will almost be similar to its previous version, SQL Server 2005 according to Microsoft. The software is available to MSDN and Technet subscribers and will be available for download from August 7.
