Recently my fren told me that he is having problem with his mb. He is using Tomato's PIII-MB BXv98-CU/V693 with VIA's chipset. His problem is that the CMOS battery discharges very quickly within few days (4-6) days.

I've analyzed the mb and found that the CMOS battery is discharging. A 3V battery discharges to around 2.65V within 4 days.

Can anybody know what is the cause of this unusual problem. Is changing MB is the last solution?

plz suggest.

This could be a hardware fault of the motherboard.
Also i dont see any point in spending money for repairs on this
ancient chipset.
Rather buy a new motherboard.

Try replacing the battery b4 going for a new Mobo(Costs around Rs 40)
In some of the cases, the battery might leak the charge. :)
