yea good buy but make sure that u have a service centre of the same near u

u have many choices of manufacturers, all offer 5 yrs warranty ..Samsung(5), Seagate(5) and WD (3) for the 7200 rpm ones

buy the one which has a service centre near u in case something goes wrong

they are more or less but failure rate is highest in seagate floowed by maxtor

which survey says that?

dont pass ur judgements just like that

u may have been around with some faulty seagates but that doesnt mean all are faulty

and now if u thot that i have seagate, ur wrong Its Samsung :p

we sell more than 15 COMP per day,
there is no need to conduct a survey,
the %age of complaints recd. says it all

Some time back, Digit and PCQ hard disk reviews selected Maxtor as the best. But I have been using Samsung since quite some time and there has been no problem at all.

Proximity to a service center is not the only deciding factor, especially in a hard disk. That is a good criteria for rest of the parts. But HD is something that shouldn't require us to enforce the warranty :)

well dude , for u and me in Mumbai thts not an issue

but wht wod u do if it gets faulty in less than year which is very well possible and u are abt 200 kms from the service centre

the dealers after a year dun take any responsibilities

they say to fill up tht crappy form and return after 2 months from the dealers directly

else u can directly take the hdd to the service centre and get it repaired soon

as thier should be no rise due to vat.

because it is revenue neutral to the govt.

and because of it noe the price differncial between the diff parts of india will be removed, as the vat rates are uniforn thought india 8)

I agree. You are right :( I need to think from different perspectives in such cases. But what I said is that proximity to service center is not the only deciding factor. Give that factor its due importance, but not too much :)

dang lost the message I was typing.

But I would not get Maxtor for Indian use. Get a samsung. not as fast or reliable but for Indian climate it runs much cooler. I personally have over 50 maxtor drives over the years even now. I once got a 500Megs one for US$5000 for a special project I was doing.

I'll retype the message later since it was too long.
