I'm a Digital Artist, most of my work includes working on softwares like 3dsmax , Maya ,Combustion......

i'm looking for a good config around 40k to 45k, with a good processing power & a neat graphics card.i'm stuck up in the decision whether to go for P4 2.8 HT or AMD 64. please help me in making a decision. I have a config taken from a dealer.

 Intel D865GBF Original Motherboard with 800MHz & HT support [Intel] [5250]
Integrated Onboard Graphics, Sound & with AGP Slot
>>Intel  Pentiumâ„¢ 2.8 GHz CPU, 1MB cache, 800 MHz FSB [Box Pack] [8750]
>>512 MB DDR RAM [PC 400] [Transcend] [256MB X 2] [5500]
>>Black 80 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [Samsung 7200RPM] [3500]
>>Black ATX Cabinet with SMPS with 300W [1325]
>>Black 17 Flat Color Monitor [Viewsonic E70F] [7950]
>>Black MM keyboard Black Scroll mouse [Logitech] [875]
>>Black 16X DVD Drive [Sony] [2050]
>>ASUS V9520 HT/128MB GF FX 5200 [9500]

it cost somewhere around 44k & its almost a 2 weeks old price. if any of u have a better config than this with the same cost than let me know.i'm looking for a good AMD 64 CPU Config... also give a contact no. of a genuine AMD dealer.

thanx in advance

thanx to Theravan & Prashray.

What u guys think about the Processor, is it well enough to handle such applications in the long run, coz most of the applications are Processor demanding.

Wat is ur opinion for the AMD 64.

yup
but on a more negative note ... (like im feelin right now so dun mind)
nuthin lasts for ever
sighhhh
even the 64 bit processors will die someday
sighhhhh
hahaha ... nah just messing .. amd 64 is the way to go if u can afford it
cuz its gonna add a nice 8-10k to ur present config !!!
oooo .. one more thing
no point in going in for 1 sata drive
unless ofcourse u plan to upgrade
and as for now ... 2 ide drives in raid should be sufficient so u can save there .. not much tho
just lettin u know ur options :)
and ofcourse a cd writer has almost become a norm now .. so instead of a dvd drive go in for a combo drive
or a separate cd writer with
whichever one u prefer

But i searched the forums & somewhere the price of the AMD 64 2800+ was mentioned was 8K, & i.e. less than P4 HT 2.8Ghz 8.7K,.... not much..but still a difference.

wat about a combo of AMD 64 2800+ & ASUS K8V Mobo??????

GeForce & Radeons are not qualified to run Maya & 3Ds Max etc, however they will run all a bit slowly then Quadro & FireGL

I do animation, for my Video editiong work, I use Maya, My specs are

P4 3.06 GHz with HT
512 MB DDR 333, dual channel
865 GBF with Lan
FX5900XT with 18 MB DDR2 RAM, Gigabyte

U should go for atleast a AMD64 3000+ for anything animation, along with 1 GB RAM, 80 GB is enough for low level animation but if U R in hardcore unlike me then go for 120 GB & make a dedicated swap partition of 1 GB

U might wanna consider taking my system as a base to make your system

Not too sure about now, but I wanted to buy a Quadro FX 4000 AGP8X before buying my FX5900XT, the cost was a stagering 1,25,000, but then again it's a pro level card, big corporation & animators can buy it

U R better off with a GeForce 6800GT from Gigabyte for Rs 32,000 at most or get a FX5900 non Ultra for Rs 20k

amd 64 3000+ with ASUS K8V

if that is not available then go for 2.8HT with 865GBF, rewmember 2.8 HT will beat 2800+ when it comes to graphics, however 2.8HT will be beaten if U have a 3000+
