Yesterday I opened my friends branded LG desktop to install a lan card, I was surprised to see that the SMPS was rated 220W only , Why so low ?

But it was running a descent config:

160gb
intel 945
e4400
DVD-rw

How come his psu is running with only 220watts.

Are the 450w or higher rated psu fake or whats the catch  ?

Thats really strange  Hope you arent seeing the 220 volts mistakenly as 220 watt. My pc runs on a 350 W psu and i guess that just marginally suffices my config:grin: : AMD Athlon XP 2.0 GHz, 512 MB ram, two 80 GB SATA hard disks, dvd-rw

it wud a marketing gimmick, coz if we wants to add anything and asks them they wud say PSU too needs to be upgraded and theyy bring a just enuf PSU for the extra component, maybe a 260W. :)
Maybe they are giving the true rating as in case of expensive PSU's Corsair HX or i-green CM.

Look over the specifications.

Maybe they are giving the true rating

Me thinks also.
