LCD TV or 1080p Monitor??

Hey Guys,

I am planning to buy a TV next month for our Dish TV connection, but i was wondering that can i buy a LCD monitor instead of a HDTV. It will cost me a lot less and have higher resolutions too.. i was thinking about this one..

Does it mean it can read data from USB ports n Memory Cards??

yes you can read data from USB devices and Memory Cards,but the monitor has to be connected to your PC.

DVI is a type connection(superior to VGA) to connect your monitor to your PC.
HDCP=(not sure) it helps you watch HD videos when connected tour PC.

If you not planning to use the monitor as a monitor with a real PC, then better if you buy a TV

Upstream Port-you have to connect this port to your PC's USB port,so that the 4 downstream ports become USB Hubs.

Trust me, Tata Sky, Big TV, Dish TV and Airtel DTH all equally suck. They all require you to sign in a contract agreeing to their rules, like the rule that they can remove a channel whenever they want from your subscription and you have no say over it, but you still pay the same price.

And these are all VGA resolution, so the video looks HORRIBLE AND STRETCHED on a widescreen LCD TV. You are better off with standard CRT TV if you want to watch a channel through a DTH STB.

Having said all this, a 1080p LCD Monitor for 12K is definitely a more worthy investment than a 1080i LCD TV for 30K.

As for STB, I recommend you to try some good local cable wallah's STB. They have same quality as DishTV/TataSky/Airtel/BigTV but cost a fraction of it and more importantly, can be used in the LCD screen as well as on multiple telivisions because of an extra analogue output mode available.

So cant i hook up my LCD monitor to my existing STB?? Is there some sort of converter available for the port?

sure you can use your monitor with STB, as metalhead said you will nead analogue output mode

if the STB output is digital and it has a DVI port it becomes easier for you.

Yes. You just need a simple convertor depending on what input your LCD Monitor supports and what output your STB supports.

You need to spend only a few hundred rupees or most propably NONE at all.

I advice you to consult some local electronics shop wallah. He can sell you the right cable.

BENQ 2200HD, has all required ports and is Full HD monitor, it has DVI, HDMI and VGA.
Beside that first check with the cable service provider for the STB detail.
check out your budget for monitor.

For higher comes 24 inch monitors in 20K, best buy would be Dell,

Best go for BenQ 22ooHD or Viewsonic 22wm both are around 12k and 1080p cheapest high definition monitors with built in speakers and HDMI port . Buy a tech-com 1050p external tv tuner which is 1.4k in chennai then your monitor will be a High definition LCD TV . If you want more sound buy a 2.1 inch speakers .

Finally bought Samsung 2233 LCD monitor (Rs 10600/-) which is Full HD in 22 inch, along with Techcom external TV tuner Model SSD 723. (Rs 1350/-)

The 4.3 signal from TATA sky gets adjusted to 16:9 ratio looks bit stretched but the image quality is perfect since this monitor is full HD it gives good reception, on the other hand cable TV signal is too bad & looks awfully bad.
