LAN Connection using lan wires

Plz hel me to connect my latop n pc to connect lan using lan wires.iam a newbie to this .If possible plz explain using a diagram.Plz make 2 connect. I am planning to share, play multiplayer games .

Make a crossover cable and connect the PC and Laptop.

set the ip address of the PC and Laptop as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 (thought ips will be assigned automatically, i think it will be better to give static ip address)
To set ip address : Control Panel / Network connections . Right click on Local Area Network, Properties, General, Internet Protocol (TCP/ip)

You may do a search in this forum... i think there are lots of post about networking 2 computers.
Tip : Check if your firewalll is blocking your Game.
