guys,
me and my friends have got a small network of 3 computers set up where we stay. we r using a switch. my friend's gotta cable modem that connects to the computer's ethernet port. what i'd like to ask is, whether we could share the internet connection over the three computers by simply plugging the cable modem to the switch?? i have a doubt that we would need a router to do that.. if we cant, then pls advice..

Assign separate private IPs (192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255) to all the computers and put the cable modem's IP address in the default gateway. This should work.

Example:
PC1 --> IP: 192.168.0.1; Default Gateway: 192.168.0.4
PC2 --> IP: 192.168.0.2; Default Gateway: 192.168.0.4
PC3 --> IP: 192.168.0.3; Default Gateway: 192.168.0.4
Cable Modem --> 192.168.0.4 (i think you'll have to configure this by connecting to the modem via a computer)
Subnet will be 255.255.255.0 for all of them.
