LAN between two PCs

I want to connect my two home PCs by LAN for file transfer purpose. Please suggest (or mention any link) the step-by-step procedure.

BTW, one of the PCs has a LAN card by which I enjoy the Broadband connection. Can I use this LAN card to make LAN connection between two PCs when Broadband is not used?

You can buy a 4port hub.. a lan card for the other pc... some networking cables.. then connect the cable from your pc to the hub and another from the hub to the other pc.. first install the lan card in the other pc.. then configure settings like ip addresses should be in the same range i.e. 192.168.1.x on one and 192.168.1.y on the other.. both should be under same workgroup..
file and printer sharing should be turned on...got ny other queries.. post here.

you can allways use 2 LAN card & simumteniuoslly... do what anubhav_har suggested, plug the cards in, connect each with RJ45, now @ the both PC go to network settings, right click on the new Local Area Network connection

Click porperties, now highlight the option Internet Protocol TCP/IC now click proeprties.... here u configure ur IP and other details,

1st system which has the broadband connection, (hope u have BSNL DataOne)

IP 192.168.1.xx (it can be any thing between 2 to 255 but not same as system 2)
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default getway 192.168.1.1

Preferd DNS 61.0.0.5 (or ur ISP DNS)
Alternet DNS 61.1.96.71 (or ur ISP DNS)

now for the second system,

right click on the new Local Area Network connection

now u can share ur Broadband connection too, so in this way u can share internet connection without a hub...

P.S. hay there was a very good post on this, if i remmember correctly it was from Digen i searched it but cant find it, if anyway one can find it, pls post the link here, that will be very use full...
