My system has a peculiar problem.
In WIN98 all keys function fine. In WinXP (& also on DOS prompt of WInXP) the following keys give wrong text as shown below.

(i) Shift + ` = ¬ Should be ~
(ii) Shift + 2 = " Should be @
(iii) Shift + 3= £ Should be #

(iV) Shift + ' = @ Should be “
(v) \ = # Should be \
(vi) Shift + \= ~ Should be |

(vii) My 'Right Alt' key doesnot work when I press 'Alt+ Enter' or 'Alt+F'.
But it works without fail when I Press ' Ctrl+Alt+Del '.

I am sure it is not a keyboard problem since the keyboard works absolutely fine without producing any wrong text in WIn98.
And also I have checked by interchanging with several new keyboards.
Please suggest solution. [Don't suggest to re-install WinXP.]

Thank You.

What have you cross checked . I think , it is your keyboards fault . If the others worked it very simple. Check your keyboard but before that I will request you to do what you said not to ask you to do - reload windows.

Its a confusing situation.

All the best

I dont think its this problem because he says he has cross checked with other keyboards.

Keyboard works fine in Win98 ... it's gotta be a problem with language setting .. as biplav said.

@godsownman ..
I think .. when he wrote "cross checked with other keyboards" .. he must have meant he brought in other keyboards and plugged them in and checked it.

This means ... it's not a keyboard trouble ..
I too think it's language setting's chaos !
Do as biplav described .. that should help .. IMO

Thank you all for correct answers. I had played around the 'Regional Settings ' before, - which created the problem.

I solved the problem from here.
