hey just a thought people with a lease line(or more bandwidth) can spare some bandwidth (at night maybe) and set up a streaming server like shoutcast and we all can enjoy the music. (i hope it is leagal.)

what i had in mind is use a normal fm radio feed audio in the pc sound card (line in) and use shoutcast (free) s/w. I tried this but i am on dialup so throughput is 5k max thus poor quality of sound (works great on a LAN).

Hmm..Good Idea.

I've a server at Dallas, Texas and another at a little distance from it and a few more at other places. I dont think I'd be able to add a sound card to my HP Servers, or I'd have definately setup something like it.

However, I'm still unsure of:
- What would I need exactly and what would be the approximate cost?
- Would it be legal to setup something like it?
- How much bandwidth and system resources would it require apporximately?

If the cost is under $1000 and the system requirements are'nt too much, I assure, you guys have a FM Radiostation by the 15th of September. ;)-:D

ok, the setup i have is as follows
1. An old sony walkman with FM.
2. A cable with stereo jack on both ends
3. fire up the linux box (p3 866,512mb,asusCUSL2 mobo, SB live value)
4. Software linux fedora core 1 and shoutcast software.
5. tune the walkman to a good station and plug in to the sound card line in.
6. set up shoutcast and give it the ip port no and the input source.
7. on my p4 pc i open a browser point to the url specified befor and use real player or winamp and enjoy music.
regards pradeep

use a usb sound card for adding sound to your servers

All of my servers are located in either ThePlanet or Telehouse Datacentre. They dont add external equipments to the servers unless I colocate.

Its a real trouble I suppose, unless I colocate a box.
