HEY GUYS and gals,
i have been hit by win32/partite virus... when ever i start a game ( SWAT 4 or Brothers in arms) my pc restarts and shows and error ( your pc has recovered from a serious error).. i installed AVG free edition.. it can detect the virus .. but it cant clean it .. so i downloaded a removal tool from bit defender.. now the restart problem is gone (may b it has removed the virus from explorer.exe) but now i have a bigger problem .. now i cant access any exe thats stored in a drive other than i (i have installed windows in i: drive)..
whenever i try to do so ... it says that i dont have approprite permissions to launch the exe.. however in safe mode i can run the files.. some wise guy told me to to format, but i cant format all of my GB's of songs that i bought.. plz help me. how do i remove this virus .. and how do i get the permissions back.....

Code:
   1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
   2. Update the virus definitions.
   3. Restart the computer in Safe mode (Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP) of VGA mode (Windows NT).
   4. Run a full system scan and repair all the files detected as W32.Pinfi.
   5. Reverse the value that the virus added to the registry.

I would suggest you perform the above steps.Although they are for Norton products specifically, those steps are prety much the same for other AV.

You can also read more about the polymorphic virus here.

its not the pinfi virus .. its called win32/parite ... and even after updating the defs .. the antivirus cant repair it .. it can just delete the files

AVG Free doesnt have any option of removing any virus.... try downloading a good AVS like KAV, NAV trial... the install it... & update it.... then run a full system scan... off course with system restore turnd off....

well the best would be to run the Avast AV in safe mode or at the time of bootup

so teh virus will be killed without any comp damage

the permissions must have been canceled by the virus itself.....
incase removing the virus doesnt solve your problem then........

make sure you are logged on as the administrator.... and then turn on the canceled permissions from that drive....
