Some programs leave their presence in the Win XP Services list even after their removal. So is there any method/registry hacks to remove the old defunct entries of the un-installed applications ?

Open regedit and goto:

Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Now under this key, u'll get several other keys for each service. Here u can delete the desired key. :)
