Press Win key+Pause, go to Advanced and select Error Reporting... If you have disabled error reporting, verify that "But notify me of critical errors..." is set to yes...

Thanks for the reply. But unfortunately I don't have the <win key> in my laptop keyboard. Is there any other way to circumvent when the <win key> is not there? for instance i use <<ctrl+esc>> to access the "start" menu which normally can be done with the win key. once again thanks arun.

Beware of the innocent
right click on my computer on the desktop and select properties. This is the equivalent of winkey +pause

I downloaded the hotkey features from the IBM support site and now made my right <alt> key as win key.
It goes to system properties.
There the error reporting is enabled. ]
The error message occurs only when the Kerio personal firewall is running, it seems. If i turn off the kerio fire wall the message doesn't appear. Anyway I could nt find what is the errror message yet.

How to pause while the computer shuts down?

If you identify Kerio as the problem, try uninstalling it and using another firewall such as Outpost or ZoneAlarm...
