I have WinXP with SP2 and Windows Media Player 10. When I download any video file that has an extension of avi and I try to play it with Windows Media Player 10, only sound comes without any video.

Can anybody tell me that what's a problem? Why I can't see avi video file.

Here is a link to Gspot Codec Information
To summarise it is a soft. that tells you what codecs are required to play a certain file and whether you have them or not

    there are 2 ways.
1)Load K-Lite Codec pack. It has Media Player too.
2)Use different software such as Video Lan Player. It has its own set of codecs

WMP 10 should have automaiticaly downloaded the codecs.
check your settings, your firewall config, and try staying connected to the net b4 trying to play the file.

Btw: video lan should play it without probs get it at: http://www.videolan.org/
