How to Play *.avi video file

Right off the assembly line
I have WinXP with SP2 and Windows Media Player 10. When I download any video file that has an extension of avi and I try to play it with Windows Media Player 10, only sound comes without any video.

Can anybody tell me that what's a problem? Why I can't see avi video file.

Right off the assembly line
there are 2 ways.
1)Load K-Lite Codec pack. It has Media Player too.
2)Use different software such as Video Lan Player. It has its own set of codecs

ya and also streaming media with udp packets and also real media files...best thing,totally free and includes all codecs necessary to play all files... :)

USE K-Lite media codec pack or VLC player these are best player to play almost all avaliable media format u may encounter

WMP 10 should have automaiticaly downloaded the codecs.
check your settings, your firewall config, and try staying connected to the net b4 trying to play the file.

Btw: video lan should play it without probs get it at: *www.videolan.org/
