how to open ports?

hi,
i wanted to play aoe:2 online, but couldnt, it used to go the screen which said setting up multipayer game and after some time it said:join failed.
i later found out that ports 6667 and 1720 had to be open.
i have a huawei AmartAX MT800 ADSL modem, i referred to the user manual, couldnt find help there. I checked to see if the ports are already opened, using a software, but the ports were blocked/closed. How do I open them?

online means in the ZONE?? or to ya frnds pc or sumthin.. cos as far as i know dial up speeds sux big time to let u play online..

yes, online means in the zone. and it dint work when i tried playing using my adsl modem/broadband connection.
i have played aoe2 online before, using my normal dial up connection and it worked fine then(speeds werent bad either). but with this broadband connection i am not able to play at all, how do i open the ports:6667 and 1720?
