My local photographer gave me a VCD made from a video Cassette. I tried to edit it using Movie Maker which comes along with Windows XP, but have been unable to do so. Will somebody tell me what I am doing wrong. If Movie Maker does not recognise the format in which a VCD is stored, is there any software (free ware only) which will convert the VCD to a format which can be edited by Movie Maker.

try this:
copy the avseq.dat file from the vcd onto ur hard disk (u can then rename its extension to .mpeg if u want to)
now, in the WMM, click on 'Import Video' in the Movie Tasks frame on the main screen, or from files>Import into collections..
and then, u can go ahead with ur editing.:)

Or you can use VCDGear to convert DAT to MPEG, and then you can edit it using WMM. VCDGear is a Freeware.
