how to compress????

hi, I have a intex internal tv tuner card & i want to know that how can i get good video quality with normal file size frm my tv tuner card, i m using tatasky & winDVR 3 for recording. till now i was recorded dvd quality (mpeg II, mode) but its big in size. plz tell me the right configration for the software.

Use any compression tool after getting from Tunner.. like Dr.DIVx
virtual dub, etc....
