how 2 identify a virus in an attachment

I got a mail from a known address--mnnadeem81@ hotmail.com with the subject: Document (there's a pin symbol near the subject). It contains a details.zip attachement file and its size is 22k. I suspect it to be a virus and i have left it unopened.

How can I know if it is a virus or something harmless?

Its .zip? Okie the best sol is to ask ur friend whether he's sent that mail, as u said it was a know ID.

hey guys! it did contain a virus called "W32.Netsky.Z@mm".

My e-mail address was at yahoo.com, i scanned the e-mail and this virus was detected.

what kind of virus is it?

if any 1 wants to check it out mail to me

from some days im getting mail from userser like shekhar suman, chsunil_sunilch, mms_smm & normally the subjects is Pics, image, fun etc.
in that mails the attachment in mostly .jpg image but image is not viewable & normally has name like DSC001.jpg, DSC0191.jpg, these name are the general name of pics from digi cam
but i never open this types of mails bcoz i know this is a virus mail
Yahoo already send this mails to Bulk folder & not in Inbox
Their is also one option that is Scan & Download always use that
