Right off the assembly line
guys I have a strange problem with my lap top recently I bought 1 laptop Compaq Presario C700 1.73 dual core 512 ddr2 ram 120 GB harddrive. So when I put my head phone to the headphone port on my laptop the speaker of my laptop doesn't go mute I mean both my head phones and speaker play at the same time.So I end up disturbing the other people around me.\
I went to the vendor to sort out the problem he said this is the problem with every laptop from compaq when I checked out other laptops from compaq every unit was having the same problem. The vendor said it can only be fixed when we load vista as the operating system.I am running XP service pack2 as my os and I dont want to change it to vista. Please help me guys how to shut up my dafault spaker of my laptop when i am using my head phone,if there is any other way may be software or tweaking my system please reply in this thread.
help me!

Oh Dear, This actually is a problem of software driver, if it doesn't happens in Vista. There is no standard way in Windows to solve this problem. I have heard there is a Windows Update that solves this problem so update your system using Windows Update utility, if you have a genuine copy of Windows XP. Also, go to the properties of the HD audio (must be in your system tray, near the clock), go to analouge and in there unselect "automatic headphone detection".

Maybe this image help you to locate it :

If it doesn't work at the first go, try uninstalling the drivers from Add/Remove programs and then reinstall after system restarts. Then try the same thing and I hope it will work out properly.
