Hi everyone !
I need help finalizing the specs for my new computer

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
Primary use - Autodesk Autocad 2014, Autodesk 3ds max 2014, Autodesk Revit 2014, Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe InDesign CS6, Illustrator CS6, Sketchup 2013, Vray, and other GPU based rendering softwares. (CUDA not required)
Secondary use - Playing games such as Watchdogs, The Crew, Witcher 3, Far cry 4, Project cars, Mirrors edge 2, Star wars Battlefront , Mass effect 4, the Division etc when they are released ...

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 65K.
would prefer not to stretch it too much (+2-3k max)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 8.1

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1 TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No, I will be keeping my old 1080p G222HD monitor for now.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: No Monitor, Keyboard/mouse , speakers, HDD (see below)

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Sometime in June.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will be assembled myself

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Ahmedabad. I would prefer locally but online is fine as well as long as the online sellers are trustworthy.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:

I need a mini ITX build
No brand preference.
Pc would be in an air conditioned room at all times.
Heat and noise not a factor at all (dont mind having the cabinet window open as well)
Probably buying Graphics card -AMD R9 290 (399 USD/24000) from the US (I know the 290 is overkill for 1080p, but it's needed for rendering power and 4GB memory, and please suggest which brand to buy from the US as well)
Prefer Intel CPU over AMD CPU
16 GB RAM is must.
I dont mind waiting a bit longer to buy if there's anything better coming out in the next month or two.
SSD and New Monitor upgrade in phase 2 (after 4 months)

I have done some (Little) research and came up with the following

Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v3
Motherboard: Any Budget Mini ITX Board compatible with this processor (Preferably with WiFi )
RAM: 16 GB (8 GB x 2)
Graphics: AMD R9 290 (Buying from the US, Budget included in 65K)
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-GS600W 600 Watts PSU
Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini-iTX Cabinets (RC-130 -KKN1)
HDD: WD Blue 1TB (Have a spare 1TB WD Blue drive,Might Hold off buying a HDD if budget overshoot
s)

Please help me pick the right parts.(and also let me know if sticking a R9 290 in an ITX case is a dumb idea)
Thanks in advance,

Cheers!
Sahil.

Yes, getting a mini ITX PC for the mentioned purposes in not a good idea. Also, you won;t get any warranty in India on graphic card purchased from US.

Intel E3-1230 v3 (17090) available at theitdepot
Asus H87M-E (7900)
G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 8 GB x2 (12000)
Sapphire R9 280X DualX (21900)
Seasonic S12II 520 (4900)
Corsair 400R (5300)

total: 69,090

OP wants a mini-ITX build and you're suggesting micro-ATX motherboards

get the Asus H87I-Plus or
MSI Z87I AC if you want with Wifi module

Thanks for the replies guys!:)

I need to carry this around, hence the mini ITX case is very much needed.

A few questions as well

1) XFX Double D R9 290 is 350$ (21k) on Amazon US right now, seems like a great deal ? (Does the XFX lifetime warranty work in india?, is it worth taking a gamble and buying from there ?)

2) If I decide not to get that R9 290 , which would be the most powerful card (within budget) I can Put inside a cooler master elite 130 case?

3) Is it worth waiting till after Computex when new hardware is released and prices drop? on the old hardware.

Thanks.

Thanks.

you should skip XFX as its A.S.S is not really good. you can buy from, asus, sapphire, msi, his etc.

you can buy 280x. you will be benefited form its splendid opencl performance.

you can wait. i dont think it will affect the price of the hardware which are available currently unless rupee gains power against $. the newer hardware will be released at a higher cost.

Appreciate the reply

Will XFX A.S.S matter if the warranty is not applicable in india?

No, none of the Graphics card fro any company comes with International warranty. So if you are buying from US, buy whichever is cheaper, A.S.S. does not matter in India as no warranty. XFX DD cards are of very good build quality and many reviewers including Hardocp use them for their test builds. You can also look for the Sapphire Tri X too. And a big no to ASUS Direct CU II and Matrix Platinum for 290 series.

Thanks for the Heads up Cilus!

I've Bought a XFX DD 290 for 345 USD / 20.7K INR :-D. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

Anybody have any ideas on the availability of any B85 Mini ITX motherboards? I've tried searching online as well as inquired with a couple of local dealers, none of them seem to have any B85 chipset ITX Boards.

Thanks,
Sahil.
