My friend wants to buy a pc within 30 k without ups and speakers.

I have sugeested config

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+
Asus M2N motherboard (specific still unknown)
512 MB * 2 Transcend DDR2 RAM @ 533 MHz
Samsung 740N 17" TFT Monitor
Samsung 160 GB SATA2 HDD
Sony DVD Writer
Floppy Drive
i-BOX Cabinet with 300 W SMPS
Logitech Combo Kbd + Mouse

I wanted to know whether this config is good enough for programming and other normal usage. He don't plan to do any gaming, so i skipped graphic card.

If anyone can give me some appx price of mobo and proc combo or suggest something better then i will be very thankful

Please answer quickly as he want to buy the pc on or before saturday.

Thanks in advance

PS: 30k budget to be strictly followed

the config specially the prcessor is little old . i think the 300w smps is not sufficient , go for atleast 400w smps

Nice config....but try to get a 3800+X2...if you can that is....

Rest is nice but try to get a CRT monitor and get a nice graphics card with the money you save...

For the PSU. I-Ball isn't a good choice...try to get a PowerSafe or VIP PSU if not Antec..or CM..

@kjuvale: YEah, i know that but my friend is little worried about the budget. I will suggest him to buy a seperate smps.

@samrulez: I am at Cochin and getting VIP or Antec cabinet and power supply is little tough, any way i ask him to try to get one.
Another thing, that he is really interested in tft monitor and Samsung 740N is really a good buy afaik
It has response time of 8 ms with max brightness of 300 cd/m2.
For general use, i think that graphics card is not required, what you say.

@assasin: Can you post or pm me the cost of individual components.

Any suggestions for Core Duo proc and compatible mobo instead of amd proc and asus mobo.

Any more suggestions for config

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and Asus M2N-MX bundle cost me Rs 12584.Bought it bout a week back.

Hey, how's the performance as compared to C2d E6300? Is it worth it to have for programming ,office work,music,movies & average gaming instead of C2D?

Well my friend has a 740N and he doesn't have any probs.. ;) ....8ms response time good enough for general purposes...but do have a look at ViewSonic LCDs they are much better some of the 17'' even have a 4ms responce time... :eek:

@SHREY If u can fork out bout 18k den go for C2D E6300 + Asus P5B DLX.The AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and Asus M2N-MX is a good performer.Its much better dan Pentium D.

@shivkumar The prices r
AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and Asus M2N-MX = Rs.12584
hynix 1GB DDR2 667 = Rs.6250 (512 DDR2 667 = Rs 3400 )
160 GB SATA = Rs3000
DVD RW = Rs.2000
i-Ball cabinet + 400W SMPS = Rs.1275
FDD = Rs.150 - 200 (wat'll u do wit a FDD??????????? )
logitech Combo kbd + mouse = Rs.900( dont know dis price exactly )
If u want get urself a GPU according 2 ur budget.
I dont think u'll get dat TFT monitor if u buy de above config.

Does Athlon X2 3800+ is 939 pin based???
I have heard that 939 socket is being phased out??

What about going for AMD Athlon 64 3000+ or 3500+ will be a better option. They are based on AM2 socket

Any suggestions on core duo procs.

Dont buy P4.Its crap.Athlon X2 3800+ is for socket AM2 though u can get socket 939 too.Mine is socket AM2.

@vasulic I dont think u'll get 1GB DDR2 533 at Rs4800.It'll be bout Rs5500 - 5800.Prices of RAM is a bit too high now.

Goin for a AM2 rig at this point of time is not a very wise decision.betta get C2D as der wont b much price difference between the 2.
Here Goes The Config:-
1-C2D E6300-8.5k
2-MSI 965 NEO(WIDOUT ON BOARD GRAPIX),Intel 965RY(WID LATEST X3000 Grapix)-6.5k
3-512*2 DDR2 667Mhz RAM-5.5k(Dont go for 533Mhz as price diff is very marginal)
4-17 CRT Monitor(Samsung)-6k
5-DVD-RW-2.1k
6-Seagate/Hitachi 160GB SATA HDD-3k
7-Logitech MM keyboard & Optical Mouse-800.
8-Decent Cabinet with atleast 400w psu-2.5k(dun go for iball as its trully pathetic.)
this is the best u can get...this mite go a lil ova ur budget.
and if u go for a motherboard widout onboard grapix then u need to buy a seperate grapix card for that u need to put more cash...else settle wid Intel 965RY which is a decent performer wid latest onboard grapix and its pretty gud if u r not gonna play high end games.
