I have an Asus a8n-e motherboard . My motherboard's heatsink is producing a shwirling noise like something is being scratched every five secs . I opened my cab and found no wires in between and no signs of dashing . I also noted it raising and decreasing its speed very frequently . What's the problem....... Help!

Are u sure it's from the heatsink...? Coz even Hard disk can cause the scratchin noise... Is there any other complications u r facing...?

i agree with the shariq, the major chances are of HDD, but before checking that make sure that u r not using the CD or FDD at that time. or else the problem can be in that

Actually it is my heatsink's fan making the noise which is atached to it .

It is not caused by fdd,cd or hdd

in that case, just open the case, and see, if the Fan is running smoothly ?, possible cause either one of the blade is broken or loose, or ball baring might have gone. in any of the case u have to replace it, if its the old P IV, then u can get it around 300-400 @ lamington road
