Weeks after graphics company ATI Technologies claimed that its graphics processing units (GPUs) were suitable for physics and even had some advantages when compared to dedicated physics processing units, Havok, a developer of physics and animation engines, unveiled its Havok FX – a physics engine capable of running physics effects calculations on hardware that supports Shader Model 3.0. The technology from Havok addresses the same needs – effects physics – that is targeted by AGEIA, a developer of PPUs.

Seems like AGEIA will be in trouble even before it gets released. I hope Havok FX will squeeze out everything from the graphics to give ultimate physics effects..[/url]

Doesn't sound too good. Like GPU's rn't taxed already..neway we'll have to wait and watch. Can't really say anything for sure until it actually comes out. A discrete PPU still sounds better though..

Ehhem. When the GPU is for graphics, PPU is for physics, APU is for audio, then what exactly is the CPU for?

If this is the case, then every game will not use more than 30% of the CPU.....

CPU has lots of power to compute physics, and thats enough for now.

Havok FX recommends a GeForce 7800GTX in order to have the "optimal" experience.

If this goes on, soon the CPU will be doing nothing. :(
