My friend recently formatted his C drive and installed XP. But after installation the older partitions D,E,F,G are now shown as unformatted partitions. How could this happen?

I tried using PC Inspector File Recovery and it gave this message

bad parameter in boot sector, root directory cluster (2147516416)> count of cluster !

How do we recover the data, it is very important.

Thanks a lot.

Install Partition Magic
It'll show the partitions.
right click any of the partition ...
advanced -> change drive letter
assign some drive letter to it (D:, E:, etc) ..

it worked for me once ... cant say if it'll work for you or not

Same thing.. The partitions are shown as unformatted. Only the C Drive which was formatted and XP was installed is fine...rest all partitions are unformatted.
