hi,

I've a 40 GB hard disk in which only windows xp & applications are installed which should not take more than 4-5 GB of space but it is showing the opposite. around 5 GB is free & 32 GB is used space

I've tried defragmentation but not successful.

What could be the problem?

regards, rohit

the system volume information takes a lot of space. it increases each time u make a change

Simply delete all the files in the folder

c:\docs!settings\your user\local settings\temp

windows xp creates restore points which also takes up lots of space....
to delete them just go to the second tab on disk cleanup(sorry don remember the name). it wil delete all points exypt the last one..
my frnd freed abt 1.5gb yest by cleanup and deleting restore points
