the TRV285E is great value for money and has'nt given me any problems (as yet).But u can't compare it to the DV handycams cuz the TRV285E is a Digital8 format based Handycam

Also consider JVC's cams with 3 CCD's. You get broadcast quality capture as opposed to Sony's single CCD cams in the same price range.
