Google Play Services apk for Micromax Unite 2

A cousin upgraded his Micromax Unite 2 to Lollipop recently.
I used Link2SD to integrate Google Play Services updates into System. However this did not go smoothly as the whole Play Services disappeared after the process.

Now I am looking for a suitable .apk to install. There are many versions on apkmirror.com all of which confused me to a great extent. The one currently installed does not work.

Any suggestions?

Try any latest pico gapps package from xda. it'll install Google Play Services and then you can update it as you like.

That is a very good idea. I did not know of its existence earlier.

I had successfully solved similar problems in my LWW with a custom ROM by replacing the original gmscore.apk with an updated version from another newer phone and installing it from /priv-app. That was in KitKat.

Things seem to have become complicated in Lollipop.

On going through the XDA thread I seem to understand that the particular solution is only for custom ROMs with no Gapps package. They have mentioned not to try in stock firmware.

Can I install only Play Services using it in stock Micromax Lollipop?
