ur prob is not all clear (as i havent heard that firefox is not supported for gmail)

anyways when u say labels and inv r not visible it normally happens when u r running under GMail's BASIC HTML mode (instead of regular Java enabled form, which gives u everything)

try reinstalling JRE (java runtime env), which may solve ur prob. reinstalling firefox may solve da same (as it is pre-java enabled).

Ya,install java run time. Re-install Firefox.
Try in other browsers. See if u get the same message.

Hey u must have edited the source code, it givs me error when i do this in about:config,
Enter preference name: general.useragent.override (click OK)
Enter value: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) (click OK)
Restart

It helps me to see address book on the right side while writing mails or u may not have JRE.

What browser are you using........ and firewall, OS build...

OS: Win XP with SP2 uninstalled(can that cause a problem)
Antivirus: AVG 7 (free edition)
Firewall: Kerio personal firewall & have also enabled the inbuilt XP firewall

I use IE, though this problem also occurs in firefox, haven't tried it in Opera

Try clearing all the cookies in IE and cache and cookies in firefox..
i think sp2 removal should not cause any problem. By the way why did you remove sp2..... :) :D
