    hi friends
I m intending to buy a gaming pc around 40k
the assembling guy has offered me the following config for 40 k (excluding 4% vat)
    P 4 2.8 GHz dual core (2MB Cache) with HT 800MHz FSB
    512 MB DDR2 533 MHz
XFX 6600 256 MB PCIe graphics card
MB: Intel 945G with 6 channel audio, 16X PCI graphics support (n integrated too)
    Creative 2.1 speakers
rest of the things are as usual ( without UPS)

    NOW the questions :
    1. the graphics card is not GT one .. so will it play all the current games ?the dealer says this card costs around 6.5k n GT wil come for 11k. Shud I go for this card or GT one. Or shud i invest i some other card for around 11k which wil play all games atleast for 2yrs. plz suggest some !!
    2. Processor : I have heard that AMD dual core is far ahead than intel ones.but the dealer says that here in Blore we have only AMD X4100+ available which costs 21k. Is there any other AMD competitor to intel in the same price range as the above mentioned intel processor?
And what about 64 bit processors ? I dont know whether the above processor is 64 bit. Do they give better performance with the currently available games n OS ?
    3. MB : I asked for the intel original MB n the dealer is ready to give. But what is the difference in 945 n 915 n other chipsets ? which one is better for gaming ?

    1. It will play all the current games, but without all the eye candy. I don't know how important that is to you, but since this PC is mainly for gaming, you really should get ATLEAST a 6600GT.

    2. An AMD Dual core is better but also more expensive. A dual core processor will eat up huge chunk of your budget leaving little to spend on other parts. Going dual core would be cool, but an AMD single core would perform better in games than an Intel dual core. If this PC is only for gaming then you would be better off with a more powerful AMD single core. The processors in you ask about are all 64 bit, but that dosen't translate into any performance while gaming.

    3. Go to the Intel site and see the differences between the 915 and 945 mobo's in detail. Keep in mind that the 915 DOES NOT support dual core processors. Between the two, the 945 would be a better choice for gaming.

I suggest you buy a Athlon64 proccy, a nForce 4 Ultra mobo, 1 GB of RAM (this is really important) and a 6600GT and above graphics card. Anything less, and you won't enjoy playing the latest games.

    More specifically, I would suggest:

    AMD 3500+
    Asus A8N-E
    XFX/Leadtek 6600GT (really important)
    1GB DDR 400Mhz RAM (2X512MB) (really important)

I thought you meant AMD X2 4200+ which costs around 20k. But this seems double your budget for the processor. And since this is a gaming machine, AMD is a must. You can play all the latest games with this in medium-high settings.

On the other hand, if you buy 3200+, you can save the extra money and invest on a better graphics card like 6800GS. This will be future proof for at least 2.5 years. This is just a suggestion, but you might as well decide on the config with 6600GT.

Do not settle for anything less than 6600GT. I had once decided on this, and then upped my budget and bought the GS and my God, I am not disappointed.

Go with Digitized. Dual core doesn't play any role in any of the current games or software except adobe photoshop. So AMD 3200+ would be much wiser. For the money you are spending, the config you are thinking about is really bad. Just go with Digitized's config.

Ahem ?? When did Intel Dual Cores become cheap ??? And when did they start running on 845G based mobo's ??? And when did 845G mobo's support pcie16x ???? And when did 845G based mobo's support ddr2 mem. ???? Ur friend must be really a bozo to believe what his assembler said ....

Going the Athlon way would seriously be better if the budget is limited to 40k's ....

And how come the pc will be a gaming monster ???? it'll barely manage games at 1024*768 .... that too it'll be filled with stuttering ....

now tats my config! :D ... yeah.. and i can play all the games at above medium settings... (medium only for games like FEAR... ..err.. not like.. till now - its ONLY been FEAR!) .. rest all i've gone to high or most - even highest.

and there goes ur 40k budget!

err.. beg to differ... 2.5 yrs is a bit tooo much of a long shot... wit DX 10 coming out ..these cards are a goner. and also .. the newer games ... better to go in for a 7800GT if u can extend ur budget by going in for a 3200+ .. but still u'll have to pool in like 10-15k extra .. but worth the buck. (not too sure abt if u'll need upto 15k n all)

oh hell yeah! 6600GT PWNZ!!!! and GS is equally good.. worth the money!
6600GT is BARE MINIMUM if u ask me. but if u are a online player.. u can very well relax... (true online players rarely look for eye candy ; )) ).

hope i've been of some help.

    For 40k's i'd suggest the following : AMD Athlon64 3500+ , 1GB PC3200 ram , MSI K8NGM2-iL mobo , XFX 6800GS ..... this should be well below 40k's ....

does onboard grafix play any role if we r using a graphix card , or in other way suppose there r 2 separate PCs both havin exactly same configuration (processor speed , ram , video cards etc)but one having intel 915 onboard and other havin intel 945 chipset , then how will performance in games differ??

No DDR2 support for AMD currently. I suggest you get Transcend DDR400 RAM.
