I was very excited that I will now get a pure UNIX OS. However There were many problems in installation. My harddisk has got Windows XP installed on it and when I tried to install FreeBSD I could not instal the X-windows system My moniter just showed some weird things and I had to restart.

I noticed that 7GB of disk space is missing and my harddisk has got some geometry errors. Can someone put some light on what are geometry errors and how I can correct it?

Also Why freebsd with x-windows is not getting installed?

Is it neccessary that freebsd be installed in first 1024 cylinders?

yeah man that must have been really getting on ur nerves!
Thats right it has to be installed on first 1024 cylinders because there lie the 4 primary partitions!
When i installed that bsd u guess what! The c: drive which had 98 and the e: which had Xp got swapped and thats true!xp rive 20 gb beacme c: and 98 on e: with 9 gb!
Well i managed to install the freebsd but it was all cmd prompt no GUI!
So my advice is better try things first on VMWARE!
