First of all in the bios the primary boot device should be the cd drive.first check that and try again. If its not working why dont u try out the cd in ur friends pc.Might be something wrong with the cd

If u want to perform a clean install , u could run the win xp setup within xp .perform an advanced installation.then while installing ,xp asks which drive to install and whether to format or not.u culd make ur choice then.

and get ur cd checked - it may / not be bootable.

Are u sure u r using the original WinXP CD? if not, it may not boot. Anyways, in any case, u can install Windows even if the CD does not boot.

Use a boot floppy disk to go to the command prompt. Access ur Windows XP CD, and change to the i386 folder. Now run WINNT.exe to install!
